Photo sets, batch downloads, increased speed, something that’s similar to an internal GPS (instead of telling you where you’re going it tells you where you are … right at that moment). All things you asked for. We listened and they have now become Newscom version 2.2. Check it out after the jump to see how everything will work.
Photo sets: Several of our customers have asked for photo sets. It’s hard when trying to find a photo and you have 75 pictures from one event. It could take pages to wade through only a few days’ worth of images. Combining the same events into one set makes it easier to get through the images and to find what you need. This way, one photo from the set shows up in the search results – clicking on that photo allows you to see all the photos in the set. But if those photos aren’t what you need, it’s easy enough to get back to the search results and see sets. It’ll make finding the exact right image that much faster.
To begin with, not all of our partners currently do sets. So some images from an event may show up in a set, and some may show up as individual thumbnails. You can tell which images are part of a set by a little number in the bottom right-hand corner of the thumbnail on the search results page (highlighted in the lead pic on this blog). Also, as we get started working with sets, they will be defaulted to “off” and you’ll need to manually turn them on if you’d like to view results in sets. We ‘re doing this because we still need to work out a few issues with how the sets will look and work, but we thought we’d give you the option to at least turn it on.
Batch downloads: Yet another request from many of our clients. Add all the images to a lightbox and you can download the hi-res or low-res versions of the images (or just the thumbnails) all at once. They’ll download into a zipped folder wherever you specify, and you’re good to go. You can even specify if you’d like to do download the watermarked versions of the images.
Print: After a brief hiatus when we switched to the new site, the print button is back by popular demand on the detail page. A one-click option to print off a watermarked preview of the image.
Site location identifier: We’re not really sure what to call this, but it’s a really nice feature. On the search results page near the top, just below the search bar, telling you where exactly you are in the site. It describes what fields you searched under to get your results and helps it be less confusing if you accidentally are trying to do a search within a search when you really meant to do a general search.
Other things I don’t really understand but are all behind-the-scenes and therefore important.
Let us know if you have any questions or anything we can do to improve the site in the comments … or if there are any features you’d like to see in Newscom version 2.3.
