In the NBA the ring is the thing and once you got one you want the second and third. It was the best of times, and it was the worst of times. We saw upsets, momentous feats by the human body, and we saw disappointments. We watched Michael Phelps become the most decorated Olympian of all time. #witness.

We saw the highly favored gymnast American McKayla Maroney fall on the vault. We saw gold-medalist 400m runner Kirani James, representing a little country of 100,000 people, trade bibs with Oscar Pistorius, the first ever double amputee in the Olympics. But then there was Voula Papachristou, Greece’s triple-jumper who got disqualified for a racist tweet. Continue reading →

There’s just something about our gymnasts that capture the heart of America. Maybe it’s because they have a little-sister air that makes you hold your breath on the balance beam dismount, close your eyes as they swing on the uneven bars, grab someone’s hand during the vault, and stand up to cheer when they finish the floor routine. This has never been more true than watching the Fab Five in London, and right in the middle of the five is Golden Gabby Douglas. Continue reading →
