No words can even begin to express the tragedy that took place last Friday in Newtown, Connecticut. Around 9:30 a.m. on December 14, Sandy Hook Elementary School heard the first gunshots of what would turn out to be a massacre of 20 first-grade children, and 6 adults including the principal, the school psychologist, and the school’s teachers.
U.S. President Barack Obama delivered a heartfelt speech to all those affected by the tragedy on Friday. And in the past five days, people near and far have reached out to pay tribute to the 26 victims of the shooting. From roadside memorials, candlelight vigils, and professional athletes inscribing messages on their shoes and helmets–to countries sharing in the grief, offering their condolences, solidarity and prayers; the world has shown immense sympathy.
