Sure it’s great to get those photos of politicians shaking hands and kissing babies. In a pinch, you’d probably even settle for a talking head as artwork on a story. Sometimes you’re lucky enough to come across a great photo showing a politician with their shoes off, or making a grumpy face at an aide or three – something different enough to add depth to your political coverage. All of those are great options for covering a story, but when it’s time to get down to the real circus that’s a presidential election, those photos just won’t do. Continue reading →

You’re going to be running a lot of photos about the presidential candidates, there’s nothing wrong with it, just a fact of life every four years (sometimes it feels like it’s only 2 years). Sometimes you’re going to be running an in-depth story on a candidate and their stand on a specific issue. For that story, you’re going to need a very specific picture to illustrate the point. Sometimes it’s going to be a somewhat embarrassing story (like McCain getting stuck in his trailer – side note, my mother thought this was a true story), so you’ll obviously try to find the funniest photo you can.
