As always the Grammy Awards delivered an entertaining night, filled with emotion, good music, and interesting fashion. I think it’s safe to say that the night belonged to Adele, winning a total of six Grammy Awards including Album of the Year and Song of the Year. Although the Foo Fighters were not far behind with some big wins for their album Wasting Light. And despite the nominees for Best New Artist being a tight race with the likes of The Band Perry and Nicki Minaj in the category, it was Bon Iver who walked away with the award.
The performances were certainly memorable, with Katy Perry debuting her newest song, with lyrics that seemed to take a swing at her ex-husband Russell Brand. There was also a reminiscent piece by the Beach Boys who were joined by members of Maroon 5 that had to warm your heart. And then of course there’s that one performance that leaves you going “huh?” That honor goes to Nicki Minaj … But it was overshadowed by the ever-so-beautiful tribute to Whitney Houston. Jennifer Hudson sang “I Will Always Love You” made famous by the late songstress which ended with the Hudson singing “Whitney we love you.” Watching it, I can’t say that I held it together…
Lady Gaga may have toned it down this year, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t other head turning outfits on the red carpet (both for good and bad reasons). I’m still confused by the Halloween costume Fergie showed up in, and Nicki Minaj’s not so reverent Vatican inspired cape, accessorized by a man dressed as the pope… However, then you have stars like Carrie Underwood and Jessie J who stunned in their gowns, going for more classic red carpet looks. Even Katy Perry toned down her usually vamped up style for a modest floor length dress.
