Olympics 2012: Gymnastics Heartbreak

As the Olympics continue to roll along Gymnastics have started to make the big headlines along with all the stories coming out of the swimming pool. The biggest surprise in the gym was on Sunday when all-around World Champion Jordyn Wieber missed the individual all-around finals by only 0.233 points.

The United States will be represented in the individual all-around final by Alexandra Raisman and Gabrielle Douglas who lead the team with scores of 60.391 and 60.265 respectively. Team USA earned the top spot going into the team finals and will try to win gold Tuesday. Standing in the way of the favorite Team USA will be the other seven finalists Russia, China, Romania, Great Britain, Japan, Italy and Canada.

The United States Women will not want to repeat what happened to the Men’s team who also entered the team finals with the top score but came up with a fifth place performance in the finals. China continued its dominance winning their sixth consecutive major championship including their second Olympic gold in a row. Japan finished with the silver medal and host Great Britain won the bronze which was their first medal in the event since 1912.
