I have to admit, in all my life I have never seen an episode of Dr. Who…terrible right? I have many friends who are addicted to it and have expressed their great admiration for the amazingness that is Dr. Who, but I could just never bring myself to start watching. The intimation of starting a TV series that is over 40 years old in the middle was just too great. However, after doing a little bit of research on the plot I think I just might have to become a die-hard fan.
For those of you who, like me, have never seen Dr. Who let me give you a little bit of run down. The story revolves around a human-looking alien known as the Doctor (hence the series title Dr. Who, I’d imagine) who can time travel. In order to jump from time period to time period he uses a sentient machine called the TARDIS, which stands for Time And Relative Dimension In Space. The TARDIS looks just like a blue police box. (For all you non-British people out there, a police box is pretty much like telephone booth but bigger. Don’t worry, we have pictures.) So the Doctor uses the TARDIS to travel to different time periods and with the aid of several earth folk, including a pretty female assistant of course, explores time and saves the world.
Throughout the series’ many years running there have been eleven Doctors. This is because each time the Doctor dies, he is regenerated into a different body and sometimes even has a different personality. This little graphic sums it up pretty well, and I highly recommend taking a gander at it.
In celebration of Dr. Who and the amazing feat of British television that it is (and on the eve of the Nov. 23 anniversary of the first episode of Dr. Who airing), we decided it would be fun to show some great pictures of the show’s eleven Doctors.
