June 4th is National Hug Your Cat Day. Well it also might have been May 30th (several internet sites debate this) but despite when the official date is set aside to hug your cat, it seems like this is the time of year people want to appreciate cats.

And house cats are great. Some dog lovers may dispute that opinion, but pets, especially cats, have been found to help reduce stress levels, anxiety and blood pressure. That may be the reason old ladies who hoard cats live for so long (no studies have been conducted to prove such a theory… yet).

So in having discovered that a National Hug Your Cat Day existed, it made me think about the kind of cats I would want to hug. I do not own a cat, and have nothing against domestic cats, in fact I like them, but I have always thought a wild cat would be fun for a pet. More specifically a white tiger, but I wouldn’t turn away a regular old lion if it showed up on my doorstep (however Animal Control may advise me differently).

I knew that Newscom had adorable images of kittens but when I discovered that we had these old photographs of wild cats being adorable, it only fueled my desire to cuddle with a leopard. In honor of National Hug Your Cat Day, check out these images and more we have back at Newscom!
