It is one of the scariest things to open your mouth up as big as it can get; try it in front of a huge crowd of people or your crush. Opening your mouth means letting go and being vulnerable; yes: vulnerable, as silly as that seems. It’s the proper technique for singing, too: opening your mouth up and belting, I mean check out Audra McDonald belting on Broadway!
It is also one of the most awkward things to look at. If someone hasn’t swished, or brushed their tongue recently you can get a nice view of some nasty yellow-brownish film layering the top surface. It’s pretty gnarly. Especially if the last thing you consumed was either coffee or dairy; when in that situation just keep your tongue to yourself. A tongue reveals a lot about a person; from personal hygiene, to stresses in their lives to where they are in life at the moment of tongue-exposure. Think about it: the more goofy and relaxed a person is the more likely they’d be willing to stick their entire tongue out and even show a little of the back of their mouth; the more closed off or shy a person is the less likely they are to even let half of the tongue come out of their mouth. Children stick their tongues out way more often than adults do and when the kids do it it’s when they’re either being silly or insulting.
Here are some other cool things about tongues:
The blue whale’s tongue is the size of an elephant and weighs 5,400 Lbs
The tongue heals faster than any other part of the body.
Using a tongue scraper to clean your tongue is proven to prevent heart attacks, pneumonia, premature births, diabetes, osteoporosis and infertility in men.
So if you’re feeling like you need to be more of a wild child and be a little rebellious go ahead, give it a shot: let your tongue loose, you’ll feel better about life. Scroll below to see some other daredevils and famous tongues, then follow us back to Newscom for more!
