She is the most recent young celebrity to grace the cover of Seventeen Magazine, and she is doing it on the coveted prom edition. Shay Mitchell is the star of the ABC Family hit television show Pretty Little Liars playing the character Emily Fields. Already in its third season, the show has been a success due to its beautifully-cast co-stars, including Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, and Lucy Hale.
Originally from Mississauga, Ontatio, Mitchell had been modeling and dancing for most of her life, however Pretty Little Liars has been her first starring role after minor roles on shows like Degrassi and Rookie Blue. And the role has launched her career. Along with photo shoots in big magazines, Mitchell is also the spokesperson for Pantene’s Nature Fusion collection. And one look at a photo of the girl’s long flowing brunette locks, you can easily see why the actress was an obvious choice for the hair company.
Her name is unique but it was not given by her parents. In fact, the star came up with the nickname herself and not for reasons most in the acting field do. Shay was born Shannon Ashley, but when she was a teenager working at a sports bar, she started telling people her name was Shay, instead of giving out her real name. It made her more comfortable and, given her chosen career path, you can’t say that a unique name ever hurt anyone in Hollywood.
