She’s the current reigning Disney queen. With hit songs like “Love You Like a Love Song” and a popular wizarding television show, nineteen year old Selena Gomez is doing quite well for herself. And although her success comes from her own hard work and talent, there is also high media attention over this girl because of a certain romantic link to none other than Justin Bieber. The young couple can only be described as a match made in Disney heaven.
Selena has been in the business since she was little. Having started her acting career on the popular children’s television show Barney & Friends, and other small TV movies, she was eventually discovered by the Disney Channel when she attended a nationwide scouting search. She had guest appearances on shows like Hannah Montana and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, but it wasn’t until 2007 that Selena got to star in her own series, Wizards of Waverly Place.
The show has done very well for itself. It became the third show in Disney Channel history to reach one hundred episodes and is currently the longest running series on the network. However, the streak ends tomorrow (Jan. 6, 2012). The last episode will air this Friday, with an hour long series finale, where it will be determined who in the family gets to keep the magical powers (don’t understand what that means? Yea, neither do I).
Although this is the end of Selena Gomez’s career starting gig, I don’t think this could possibly be the last we see of her. More movies, albums and public displays of affection seem to be in this girl’s future. And not to say that young love doesn’t last, but we may have more media coverage over a future split between Selena and Justin than we have seen with Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries. But whether they make it or not Selena Gomez can make a career with or without the Bieber.
