Lana Del Rey is taking the world by storm and creating quite a bit of controversy. Already she’s got haters, but already she has some devoted fans, and isn’t that all the sort of ingredients necessary for the recipe to success? It’s how Hollywood lives on the idea that any publicity is good publicity. So even when she bombed her biggest gig yet, debuting to American Audiences on Saturday Night Live back in January, it got people talking and the name Lana Del Ray became one people now knew.
However glamorous her name may sound, it is – unsurprisingly – not her given name. Born Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, the singer changed her name to something that she has described to be beautiful and stated that she wanted a name that she could “start shaping the music towards.” And after her failed attempt to make successful music as Lizzy Grant, maybe a new name and fresh start was what Lana Del Rey needed.
However after her initial release of her first album under her former name, Lana bought back the rights to it, and apparently is set to release the music again this summer in what should be a more popular reception. Her image, no matter what people think of it (and whether or not they really believe her pouty lips are the work of plastic surgery) is sultry and seductive and not in the way other pop stars wear their sexuality on their sleeve. Lana Del Rey is, in short, beautiful and mysterious. And the mystery with her only builds…
Recently tracks have leaked onto YouTube of a singer by the name of May Jailer who some believe is Lana Del Rey. These allegations could be true and they could be false, but if they are true, then timing couldn’t be better for the up and coming star, who could use another little stir before the release of her next album.
So check out these images (and more we have back at Newscom) of Lana Del Ray.
