You may recognize Aziz Ansari from the hilarious cast of Parks and Recreation. He plays the slightly bizarre character (although this could be said of everyone on the show), Tom Haverford, a role that has even got him recognition from the President. Apparently Malia is a big Parks and Recreation fan. So I suppose the President thinks the comedy is a better alternative to Keeping Up With The Kardashians for his daughters…
Which it is.
Aziz’s success has come in some interesting forms. A befriending by rapper Kanye West has led Aziz to partying at nightclubs with the like of Jay-Z. If you think he doesn’t look like he quite fits in with that type of crowd, don’t worry, Aziz doesn’t think so either. And while promoting his stand-up album, Dangerously Delicious, Aziz sent out a look-a-like to the streets to encourage sales. He sent the same double to Anderson Cooper’s show for an interview, but it didn’t take long for Anderson to figure out something was up.
He starred in 30 Minutes or Less, Funny People and I Love You, Man and was the host of the 2010 MTV Music Awards. Thankfully hosting the award show cleared up any confusion about who Aziz Ansari is.
Upon researching information on Aziz Ansari, I found a beautiful statement written in an article on Asian-American celebrities: “What I like about Aziz is that his roles could have been given to someone of any race, and he portrays them without putting race into it. He’s playing a big part in the idea that Asians don’t need to be typecast into roles for them to get a break in the entertainment industry.”
In honor of his budding career, check out the images we have of Aziz Ansari back at Newscom.
