So here are seven pretty darn good reasons to use Newscom. Hopefully this list will teach you something you didn’t already know about Newscom, vindicate your personal reasons for using the site, or will show you the more enlightened path of photo licensing that is Newscom. Continue reading →
Sometimes you just need to find a photo as quickly as you can. Sometimes you’re searching for a big subject that has a lot of related images and you’re having a hard time finding the exact image you need.
Finding photos on Newscom typically isn’t difficult. You come to Newscom, sign in, search, find your photo, and download it. But Newscom has included advanced search options that can help you nail down that hard-to-find photo. Today, we’ll talk about the advanced search by date function. You can find other tips for searching on Newscom here. Continue reading →
It’s one of our favorite times of the year, when our partners start putting together the best photos from the past year. Today we’re featuring the best images of 2012 from AFP (Agence France-Presse). This lightbox is full not just of great moments in the history of this past year, but also has some just stunning photographs from daily life around the world. Continue reading →
Newscom has a lot of images on our site. According to the counter on the front page of the site, we have more than 75 million images, graphics, and videos just hanging out, waiting for you to find them.
This is good because the odds of finding what you need are high, even if you’re looking for something obscure. It can also be hard, though, because there are a lot of images to look through. As any good photo editor knows, half of our job value is knowing how to choose the keywords that will find us the photo we’re looking for. It’s an art and a science – and can almost border on mind reading. Continue reading →
First of all, we do not know the hotel that One Direction is staying in. While we would love to help, we are going to stop responding to email requests asking about that. Mostly just because it’s creepy.
Please, enter with me into the confusing world of photo licensing. Yes, it’s over your head and my head, but maybe we can come to some basic understanding. But we do want people to understand how they can correctly use photos online.
Since the world of photo licensing is pretty difficult, I will attempt to break it down for you. There are three main licensing options:
- Royalty Free
- Rights Managed
- Flat Fee Continue reading →
Here’s a fun search tip when you’re looking for a good photo: just search “topshots” on Newscom and you’ll get a collection of photos from Agence France Presse (AFP) showing their top photos from the day (and week, and month, and so on). Continue reading →
We’re a lot of things at Newscom. We’re big, we’re easy, we’re deep, we’re fast (all in relation to finding and downloading photos, of course). We’re also always working to make things easier for the people we work with every day. One thing we hear over and over that our clients need is “speed”.
We hear you. We really do. Everything that we’ve done at Newscom over the last year has been about making it easier for you to find the picture you need and get out and on with your life as quickly as you can. Our new website, our new search tools, SubjectSites, and even this blog was all set up to make it easier to find the right photo. Continue reading →
Photo sets, batch downloads, increased speed, something that’s similar to an internal GPS (instead of telling you where you’re going it tells you where you are … right at that moment). All things you asked for. We listened and they have now become Newscom version 2.2. Check it out after the jump to see how everything will work. Continue reading →
Community. It’s kind of a vague term, but it’s the buzz word being thrown around in the industry these days, something every company needs to be successful in the changing business frontier. It’s the next “big thing” like Facebook, SEO, web sites, fax machines, and the telegraph were before it. But community goes beyond all that, we think, to a higher plane of understanding and collaboration. At Newscom we want you to join us as we take the next step up. Continue reading →
