April was a rough month. We were all witnesses to serious tragedies in the United States. We watched as Boston lived a nightmare as bombs went off at the finish line of the Boston Marathon and the hunt for the perpetrator ensued. One month later, we here at Newscom reflected on all that had happened. What started off to be a bright and beautiful Patriot’s Day, ended in chaos, fear, and loss for so many. Unnerving events followed the two bombs that exploded into the crowds lining the Boston Marathon that Monday, include those that I can only imagine to describe as terrifying. Shrapnel, smoke, blood, and confusion was all that surrounded the Boylston Street finish line that afternoon.

About 16 months after the heartbreaking events of the Costa Concordia, many are wanting an update on the capsized cruise ship. The giant ship still lies capsized, close to Giligo Island, in Italy, a reminder of the lives lost and continued concern for the impact it is having on the environment. New Costa Concordia salvage efforts have exceeded the estimated cost of $300 million, jumping to close to $400 million. Continue reading →

The One World Trade Center is to become the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere, but plans for this to transpire will just have to wait. The completion of the 104-floor skyscraper has been put off due to poor weather conditions. Today (April 29th) was hoped to be the date that the spire pieces and beacon would be lifted, capping the building at 1,776 feet tall. High winds in New York have made this impossible and the event has been rescheduled. Continue reading →

We’ve seen a better week in the world over the past few days. Last week was littered with tragedy and after one of the suspected Boston Marathon Bombers was caught alive, there has been a sigh of relief in America. SWAT Teams Search Boston for Marathon Bombing Suspect

One of the Boston Marathon bomber suspects is dead and, as of this writing, police are hunting for the second – considered armed and dangerous – in Boston. Boston residents are on “shelter in place” order and have been asked to not leave their homes, lock their doors, and not open it for anyone except an identified police officer.
