A fiery explosion ripped through the town of West, Texas last night, destroying a fertilizer plant and leveling homes in the area around the plant. The explosion and fire may have killed as many as 15 people and injured more than 160 others according to reports this morning.

A fire started yesterday evening in the West Fertilizer Co. plant. Shortly after firefighters first responded to a fire at the plant, the explosion occurred. Five or six of those volunteer firefighters are missing.

The explosion also ripped through homes in the area with some estimates saying 60-80 homes had been destroyed, including a nearby apartment complex. Buildings within a 5-block radius, including a nursing home, hospital, and middle school, all received damage from the blast.

The pictures from the fire and explosion are dramatic. West Texas looks like a war zone.
