It has been said that the eyes are the window to the soul … but I bet you’ve heard that one before! In all actuality, making eye-contact probably won’t reveal much about about a person’s character. There are a million and one cliches about eyes, but I guess it’s easy to see why. A close-up image of the eye is enough to demonstrate the unique and intricate design of a person’s iris. After all, who hasn’t been completely captivated by an animal’s piercing stare, or an infant’s wide-eyed gaze?
The colored area that is perhaps the most beautiful part of the eye is called the iris. When we determine a person’s eye color, we are looking at the amount of pigmentation in their iris. This pigmentation is influenced by genetics, but the amount of melanin – or pigment – a growing child accumulates as they grow is another factor that might affect eye color. Those with less melanin tend to have lighter eye colors, and those with more melanin might have an iris with a darker hue … this explains why babies that are born with blue eyes might find that their eyes darken or change color as they grow.
We are constantly making connections with each other and with the other animals that we interact with. Eye contact is what enables us to make strong connections. You have to admit, that a reassuring glance from a parent, spouse, or friend is a valuable form of communication. The eyes are what make us animated … Just look at these wacky objects with eyes, and you’ll believe me.
