Coming into the 2012 Olympics as the defending gold medalists, a lot of expectations rest on the women’s basketball team. Of their nine appearances at the Olympic games, the team has medaled eight times, with six gold medals on their resume. This summer they’ll be aiming for their fifth straight gold medal.
The exhibition games haven’t proven too challenging to either the men’s or women’s team. Turkey has been the first threat, but the team was able to pull together a 80-61 victory, with Seimone Augustus and Diana Taurasi each sc0ring 16 points.
The women start Olympic play on July 28th against Croatia.
